The 24th September 2011 also held a day of competition for our espoir gymnasts. Alex Wight, Amy Chambers and Amy Halliday were all competing in the level 3 out of age competition, with alex in the 10/11 age group, and Amy & Amy in the 12/13 age category.

Amy Chambers and Amy Halliday performed their routines well against tough competition. Amy Halliday successfully competing new skills after two years without competition due to injury. Alex performed her routines without mistake and, although only competing against two other girls achieved fantastic scores on every apparatus to come second overall. Scores as follows:

Amy Chambers: Vault – 10.5, Bars – 9.6, Beam – 9.75, Floor – 10.55, Total – 40.0, Position: 5th
Amy Halliday: Vault – 10.5, Bars – 8.65, Beam – 6.6, Floor – 9.85, Total – 35.61, Position: 7th
Alex Wight: Vault – 11.11, Bars – 9.0, Beam – 11.65, Floor – 11.45, Total – 44.0, Position: 2nd

The following weekend – 24th September 2011 – saw Ellie Russell and Erin Gallacher competing in the in age level 4 competition, also held in Bells sports centre.

The girls performed well in a high level competition and despite falls on beam managed to achieve good scores on each apparatus. Ellie even winning a silver medal on the Vault! Scores are as follows:

Ellie Russell: Vault – 11.25, Bars – 9.6, Beam – 9.75, Floor – 10.8, Total – 41.4, Position: 6th
Erin Gallacher: Vault -  10.55, Bars – 11.15, Beam – 7.7, Floor – 10.25, Total – 39.65, Position: 10th

On the 17th of September, 3 Lasswade gymnasts took part in the level 6 Individual & apparatus competition held in Bells Sports Centre.

Eve Lawrence and Hannah Cunliffe were up first in the age 9 category, with this being Hannah’s first ever competition! After a shaky start on beam the girls posted good scores on all apparatus, with Eve winning a silver medal on vault and a sixth place rosette over all, and Hannah a gold medal on floor! Rebecca Moffat was up next in the age 10/11 group, and again posted great scores along with achieving her personal target of competing her upstart on bars for the first time! Fantastic job girls, bring on level 5! Scores are as follows:

Hannah  Cunliffe: Vault – 10.6, Bars – 9.44, Beam – 9.68, Floor – 11.5, Total – 41.29, Position: 8th
Eve Lawrence: Vault – 11.35, Bars – 8.9, Beam – 10.54, Floor – 11.23, Total – 42.05, Position: 6th
Rebecca Moffat: Vault – 11.4, Bars – 7.1, Beam – 10.84, Floor – 11.1, Total – 40.57, Position: 25th

Two weeks later, Lasswade were back in Perth on the 8th of October for the level 5 individual & apparatus competition!

First up Aimee Given and Abbi Smyth, who were competing with just one other girl in the age 9 category! Again beam proved to be our nemesis, however the girls did exceptionally well on every other apparatus, resulting in them placing first and second overall. Abbi finishing with three silver medals and Aimee with 4 golds! Marianne Hume was then competing within then 10/11 category, she had one fall from beam but was consistent on the other apparatus, achieving a silver medal for her bar routine! Scores are as follows:

Aimee Givan: Vault – 11.0, Bars – 10.867, Beam – 7.15, Floor – 11.133, Total – 40.15, Position: 1st
Abbi Smyth: Vault – 10.2, Bars – 9.967, Beam – 8.15, Floor – 10.933, Total – 39.25, Position: 2nd
Marianne  Hume: Vault -  10.233, Bars – 11.267, Beam – 9.0, Floor – 10.9, Total – 41.4, Position: 7th

On the 13th of November 2011, Lasswade travelled once again to Bells sports centre, Perth. This time competing in the Level 5 open age team competition!

The team made up of Hannah Cunliffe, Eve Lawrence, Abbi Smyth, Aimee Givan, Olive Walker and Marianne Hume managed to go against all the odds and despite injured team members, last minute changes and some unlucky mistakes, the girls pulled together as a team which resulted in a fantastic fourth place finish! All of the gymnasts also managed to achieve their personal targets, with a special mention to Marianne Hume for successfully competing her giant back away on bars! Well done girls, fantastic team effort! Scores are as follows:

Free gymnastics trial sessions!

On Sunday the 18th of March, Lasswade gymnastics Club will be holding free trial sessions in the gymnastics hall of Lasswade High School Centre. The time will be dependant on your daughter’s age and will be advised over the phone.

Available to girls aged 5 in year upwards!

Trial is for admission into our two piece/beginners classes, which run at various different times on a Sunday morning/afternoon.

September and October is a busy time in the club as this is when the voluntary competitions are held in Perth. We have girls entered in Level 6, 5, 4 and 3 competitions as detailed below. The results of the competitions will be detailed on the results page.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Men’s Artistic Coach to join our expanding gymnastic club.

All classes are held in the Midlothian School of Gymnastics which is the best equipped facility in Scotland.

We are looking for a level 3 coach who has the intention of going on to become a level 4 coach.

The position will include coaching for 16 hours per week which will be remunerated commensurate with the successful candidate’s previous experience.

Job Description

The coach will be responsible for

  1. Re-introducing Men’s Artistic Classes at Lasswade GC
  2. Implementing a structured competitive programme that allows each gymnast to develop their maximum individual potential.
  3. Defining the vision for men’s gymnastics within the club.
  4. Working within the club’s normal hours which are Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday 5pm to 9pm and Sunday’s 10.30am to 5.30pm.

The successful applicant will

  1. Comply with and implement the Scottish Gymnastics Health and Safety Policy and Child Welfare Policy.
  2. Coach within the Scottish Gymnastics Code of Good Coaching Practice Guidelines.
  3. Be enthusiastic and motivated to work with children and young people
  4. Be responsible directly to the Club Head Coach
  5. Be Self Employed.
