with Lasswade having a total of 6 gymnasts competing at this prestigious event. In the

performances and each won the overall silver medal. Brooklyn came a very credible 12th with

Kendal and Holly were back in action again on the Sunday in the Womens Apparatus final qualifying for

overall performance to take the Bronze medal. Unfortunately, Paul only managed to compete in

qualified for the Apparatus Finals on Sunday where Steven won the Gold on Floor and

Vault and Bronze on the High Bar. Well done Boys, Further proof that Lasswade are becoming

a well recognised name in Mens Scottish Gymnastics.A full breakdown of all results are

12/13yrs Brodie Sandilands excelled in 2nd place, with Christey Young 5th and

make this a memorable occasion. Full Details of all the results are updated

on the results page.

British Club Grade 2 National Finals

With a group of our gymnasts already away competing in Perth (see above), on the

same day, 26th April, Brooklyn McDonald was busy in Birmingham competing in the

British Club Grade 2 National Finals. The competition was very stiff with the best gymnasts

from all over the United Kingdom. Brooklyn performed well coming 49th in theUK. Well done Brooklyn.

British Men's National Club Grade Finals

On the 5th May, Stuart Ball, Lee Perfect and Alasdair Ball travelled to Newcastle to compete in the

British Men's National Club Grade Finals. All three were in the primary 3 category and out

of a total of 65 competitors in this category, Stuart came 14th, with Lee 19th and Alasdair 26th.

for this competition. Full Details of all the boys results are updated on the results page.

Alex takes GOLD medal at Club Grade 6 Competiton

club grade 6 On Saturday the 19th April, Alex Wight, Mica De Costa and Jennifer Evans travelled to the Bells Centre, Perth, for their first experience of competitive gymnastics. The competition was overwhelming with approximately 77 gymnasts competing at the Club Grade 6 Level. All 3 girls performed brilliantly and achieved distinction passes. A special mention must go to Alex who came 1st in all five appatarus as well as winning the gold medal overall. Her score was more than 3 full marks above the girl coming second.Pictured are Alex (left), Jennifer (middle) and Mica (right) with their proud coach Rachael Purves.

LEE, STUART AND ALASDAIR QUALIFY TO REPRESENT SCOTLAND

On Sunday 9th March, Lee Perfect, Stuart Ball and Alasdair Ball were

competing in the Primary 3 in Age MA NDP Scottish Heats competition at

Bellahouston, Perth. All three gave brilliant performances with Lee Coming 1st,

Stuart 3rd and Alasdair 4th. They have all qualified to represent Scotland at the

National Finals to be held in Newcastle on 3rd /4th May. Well Done Boys.

At the same competition Gary Tickle was competing in the Primary 4 (out of Age) level.

Now, normally competing out of age means that a gymnast is older than the ‘in age' specified

for each competition level. Gary however, was competing in the out of age category because

he was a year younger than the age 9 specified for Primary 4 level, and against some very

stiff competition he came in 1st. Amazing achievement for being so young.

Full Details of all the boys results are updated on the results page.

2007
Happy New Year
2007

Well just as we've all finished taking the Christmas decorations down there was no stopping some of our gymnasts who continued our great end to 2006 with a magnificent start to 2007. Only six weeks into the New Year and already the good news is pouring in.

I am of course talking about the recent Scottish Squad trials held at our centre on the weekend of the 20th and 21st January where Lasswade Gymnastics Club had a grand total of Eight Gymnasts successfully chosen for squad places. Never before in the history of our club have we had so many gymnasts qualify for Scottish Squads and this again is a credit to all concerned with Lasswade.

Congratulations
In the National Squad, Kendal Smith, Holly Ramage, Jenna Gillespie and Rachael Melrose were selected which is fantastic achievement as the standards set here are extremely high.

In the Regional Squad, Alyssa McCarthy, Jenna Scott, Abbie Simpson and Eilidh Craig were selected which again is a great accomplishment as some of these gymnasts have never experienced the demands of this type of competition.

Congratulations

This is not the only good news we have to report, we also have Kendal being asked to represent Scotland at the Celtic Cup in Northern Ireland on the 24th February. Then, both Kendal (Senior Team) and Holly (Junior Team) have been selected to represent Scotland at the British Schools Apparatus Finals in Newcastle on 18th March and in addition to this Holly, Jenna Gillespie and Rachael have also been chosen to train with the National Youth Coach.

Well done to all the gymnasts named above, their hard work and effort has been recognised by their qualifications. Susan, Gus, Jim and all at Lasswade are very proud of your achievements.

newsNews Update

Well what a busy few weeks the club has been having, Not long after we had Holly becoming the Scottish under 12 newsChampion then Kendal and Alyssa were off to Aldershot to compete in the Junior Challenge Cup on the 26th November. Unfortuantely, Alyssa could only compete in bars due to an injury but Kendal performed brilliantly particularly on floor where her score of 11.90 was the 4th highest overall which yet again is a magnificent achievement. There was no rest for Kendal as the very next week she was representing Scotland Flag along with Charlotte Griffin, Hannah Leigh (both Fife) and Brogan Archibald (Perth) in the Goodwill Classique International at Cumbernauld on the 2nd December. The Scottish team came just outside the medals being 4th overall in the competition, a very, very credible result. Finally, our own Club had their Club Championships on the 10th December and what a fantastic event this was. The effort put in by all the Coaches, Committee members, parent helpers, along with the gymnasts themselves contributed to make this such a spectacular event. Congratulations to Ross McKenzie, Cameron McVicker, Richard Gray, Lee Perfect, James Millar, Erin McGlinchey, Jade Gibson, Rebecca Davidson, Brodie Sandilands, Rachael Melrose, and Holly Ramage who all came out top in their relevant groups. A full breakdown of all of the above results is now available on the results webpage.

Under 12 Scottish Champion

Holly Ramage

Lasswade Gymnastics Club

Flag Holly Flag

A historic achievement in our Clubs history occurred on Saturday the 18th November 2006 at the Bells Centre, Perth. Holly Ramage gave a magnificent performance to become the under 12 Scottish Champion and as well as winning the overall competition she also won the gold medal and trophy on the vault, bars and floor. The floor was especially difficult as she performed a double back salto in her routine making her the youngest ever girl from a Scottish Club to compete this element. This is the first time our Club has had a Scottish Champion and as proven by this fabulous result we are now undoubtedly one of the top clubs in the country. Holly has been at Lasswade Gymnastics since she was 5 years old, with her dedication and the help of her coaches, Susan Purves, Gus Williamson, Jim Thomson and of course the commitment of her parents she can now honestly say she is the best gymnast in Scotland in her age group. Pictured above is Holly with all her trophies. Congratulations, Holly from all at the club, we are very proud of you. Also participating at the Scottish Championships representing our club for the first time was Jenna Scott, one of our newest members who also gave a terrific performance. Full breakdown of results are on the results page.

On Saturday 30th September, The Lasswade Gymnastics Team of Kendal Smith, Holly Ramage, Tasmin Wilson and Rachael Melrose were at the Bells Sports Centre, Perth competing in the Open Age Team and Individual Competition. This is one of the most prestigious events in the Scottish Gymnastics calendar for which, the girls along with their coaches, have been planning and preparing for some time. The girls gave tremendous performances against very good opposition. This resulted in Kendal deservedly winning the Silver medal, closely followed by Holly who won the Bronze medal. Tasmin and Rachael were placed 24th and 27th respectively which considering it was their first experience in a team competition environment, is a very credible achievement. The team itself was placed 4th.This has to be one of the best performances in the Clubs history, having had two gymnasts placed 2nd and 3rd in a Scottish National Competition judged on the full F.I.G. code. The Club is continuing to improve; we are, as proven by this result, now undoubtedly one of the top clubs in the country. Tombola - Bonnyrigg Fun Day - Sunday 18th June

After a week of glorious sunshine, the day for Bonnyrigg Funday arrived but unfortunately so did the rain. This did not deter Julia Gleed and Alicia McGlinchey in their efforts to raise funds for our club. They were kept busy along with their family and friends manning the tombola stall. Kiera did a grand job cajoling people into buying tickets - mainly to Midlothian workmen who were hoping to win the whisky but mostly ended up with the toiletries!! A total of £80 was raised at the tombola and in addition to this special thanks to Julia Gleed who also donated £10 from her craft stall. There are still a few tickets left for Name the doll and once they're all gone we'll reveal the name and winner. Thanks to all the parents who donated items and of course Alicia and Julia, it's much appreciated.

sunshine Sun Shines on Kendal at Perth

Whilst the majority of us were out basking in the sunshine on Saturday 10th June, Kendal Smith was stuck indoors at the Bells Centre, Perth . She was, however managing to raise a few temperatures herself with her fantastic performance at the Scottish Junior Championships coming 7th Overall on the Saturday but, more importantly, was an impressive 3rd on bars. This meant yet again, no sunbathing for Kendal on the Sunday as another trip to Perth was required to compete in the Bars Final where she scored a staggering 8.9 and won the Bronze Medal. Well Done Kendal, Hopefully the sun will be out next weekend for you to top up the tan!! A full breakdown of results are available on the results page.

Tombola

Lasswade Gymnastics are looking to hold a Tombola Stall at the Bonnyrigg Fun Day on Sunday 18th June and would appreciate your donations of wine, chocolate, sweets, biscuits, gifts, toys etc. Please hand donations to any Coach/Commitee member by Friday 16th June. Helpers are also needed to man the stall, the more people we have then less time required to spend on the stall. Please let Alicia McGlinchey know if you're able to help at this event. This only works with your help so please donate if you can. Thanks

Text Box: Well Done Jenna & Abbie
