Woman's Artistic News for 2006
April continued on the success started in March with the first of the competitions being represented by Holly Ramage who was participating in the Broadwood Booster F.I.G. Training Grant competition on Saturday 08.04.06. Holly came 1st on vault and Bars, 2nd in Beam, 3rd in floor and won the overall GOLD MEDAL and also won a well deserved £150 Training Grant Prize.
Next event on the calendar was the Club Grades 5/6 at Perth on the 15.04.06. Lasswade had a total of 11 girls competing and yet again they performed brilliantly with all 11 girls gaining scores of 83.0% or more. This combined with two merits, one each from Erin McGlinchey and Rachael Melrose (both scoring over 90%) with Rachael also first overall in Grade 5 made for a very successful and rewarding day for our club. Well done to all the gymnasts Sarah Lyons, Lindsay Turnbull, Emma Watson, Catriona Millar & Erin Mclinchey competing in Grade 6 and Jenny Baldwin, Brodie Sandilands, Eilidh Craig, Sarah Murray, Rebecca Kinghorn and Rachael Melrose competing in Grade 5.
Taking a break from the Competitons, the Club successfully held it's AGM on the 26th April at the Lecture Theatre in Lasswade High School . A record number of parents turned out to support us and the Committee are very appreciative of this. Welcome to new Committee members, Phil Jeacock , Julia Gleed , Bertie Maclean and Aileen Millar who ‘volunteered' to go on the Committee as Ordinary members, thanks also to Alicia McGlinchey who moves to the position of Club Secretary and Wilma Kelley who becomes Treasurer. Andrew Ramage (Chairman) thanked the Committee members who have stepped down during the year of Elaine Roseburgh , David Hughes, Karen Murray, Alan Bisset and Judith Tait and also reiterated his thanks to all Coaches, Parents and Committee members for their time, effort and dedication.
Well what a month this has been so far. Kendal Smith, Jenna Gillespie and Abbie Simpson were all competing at Perth on the 4 th March. Kendal was competing in Voluntary Level 1 and gave a great overall performance to win the Gold Medal. Jenna and Abbie were the only two gymnasts in the whole of Scotland to be entered to compete in the Compulsory Level 4 (in age) competition. This is a great achievement for our Club and the credit must go to not only the gymnasts but also to the dedication of our coaches. These girls made Lasswade proud with Jenna coming 1st and Abbie just behind in 2nd place. Watch out for their photograph in the Photo Gallery Page. All three have now qualified to represent Scotland in the National Finals in Birmingham , Kendal on the 29th /30th April, Jenna and Abbie on the weekend of 6th /7th May so keep checking back for the results.
Holly competed in the Britsh Compulsory Level 2 (in age) competition on the 11th March at Liverpool. She gave a great performance coming 25th overall (in Britain) and getting the 6th highest mark for her vault. Again, that's the 6th best in the whole of the United Kingdom!! What an achievement. Holly and Kendal were representing Scotland in British schools Apparatus Championships in Newcastle on Sunday 19th March. Kendal was reserve in the under 19 age group and Holly came 20th in the under 13 Age Group. It is a great achievement for our gymnasts to be selected for National Events such as these and we are very proud of their success. Results are on the results webpage.
February has been a quiet month for competitions but gymnasts have been working hard training for upcoming competitions.
The National Squad trials took place at the Midlothian School of Gymnastics on 21 st /22 nd January. Lasswade girls Kendal Smith and Holly Ramage again gave a great effort and were both successful in being selected for the National Performance Squad. In addition to this, Kendal and Holly have also been selected to represent Scotland at the British schools Apparatus championships in Newcastle on the 19 th March. This is a credit to both girls as Kendal is competing in the under 19 age group (she is 13!) and Holly is in the under 13 age group (she is only 10!!). Results will be updated as soon as the become available after the competition.
